The RIC Index compiled by Jim Herlihy contains 38 Glennon names(including variants). There is only one Robert born 1840 a brother of your Joseph. Their Father(Robert) was not in the RIC but two of their brothers William and Thomas were.
Joseph Glennon Service record 39642, height 6ft and half inch, joined the Sevice 7th August 1873 age 19. He was located in Wexford and resigned from the Force 23 June 1880 due to injury
Joseph married Mary Anne Hanlon in Enniscorthy Co Wexford. The marriage was not registered with the GRO but I recollect seeing that it was recorded in an index of Enniscorthy Church records. i will make a search thro. my papers
You will see from the birth search on site that the couple had three children Mary Agnes 1877 Robert 1880 and Matthew 1882
Robert Glennon ( Joseph's brother) married Catherine Duffy mid 1860's and had possibly ten children. He died after his retirement from the force and Catherine moved to the US with the children. Another of Joseph's brothers is believed to have emigrated to Australia(possibly Christopher ?) William who was also in the force died 26 October 1882. He was married to a woman from Mayo on the 9th September 1877-I have not searched any further details

Thanks Frank

It's interesting. I now see that Joseph's children that were born in Ireland all died (Robert b.1880, d. 1880; Matthew b.1882, d. 1883 in Liverpool; Mary Agnes b.1877, d.1884 in Liverpool). They must have emigrated in the autumn/winter of 1883. My GD was christened as Robert Matthew in 1892.

My mother seemed quite sure that Robert Glennon (my great great GD) was in the RIC and that is why his sons also joined. Is there any way of finding out what he did? Could he have been in the army?

Thanks

Steve, Robert Glennon born 1840( who was Josephs brother ) was in the RIC and he had two sons who also joined the RIC. Maybe that is the answer ?
I have a transcription note from the Nat. Library of Ireland-Kilbeggan Parish Records-Robert Glennon married Mary Fallon 2nd November 1832 Witnesses William Fallon and Marcilla Gaghagan. No record of his occupation on the marriage record.
I had hoped that the GRO death entry would provide an answer however the is no record of his death from 1864 onwards.
Lewis's Directory circa 1837 cites the main industries in Kilbeggan as Distilling, Brewing ,Milling and Flour. Interestingly Robert's Trade or calling prior to enlisting 1858 was described as Miller One can only guess at this point that his Father possibly worked in some capacity in those industries. Check Griffiths Valuation the family to my recollection were towns people
Hope this helps

That may be it. Can we tell what Robert jr's two RIC sons were called and their dates of birth?

Thanks

Steve, Correct position is possibly that Robert Glennon(b1840) had one son not two in the RIC. Name John Glennon (b) 20th June 1867. Service Number 51718. Married 25th June 1893 to Mary Cahill. The Marriage Register entry confirms the occupations of John and his Father Robert as Policemen

Hi,
I am Terry Best and I have just started looking into the Glennon connection in my family.
Rose Glennon (b 1837) was married in 1859 to Patrick Ryan and my grandfather (Christopher Ryan) was born in 1876 at Kew, Victoria, Australia. As yet, I do not know when they came to Australia. It has been very interesting to see how the Glennons have spread over the world.
Cheers to all the 'connections', Terry

Hi Terry, Possibly your Rose Glennon baptised Kilbeggan Co Westmeath 16th October 1837. Parents Robert Glennon and Mary Fallon. Sponsors Thomas Dunnell and Mary Hughes.
Check out Rootsweb. There are some old postings relating to Rose and Patrick Ryan. ' Patrick had three children to a prior marriage and he and Rose emigrated to Australia 1864' 'Rose had a sister Winifred who married Peter Kelly and they also emigrated to Australia'
